Synopsis
Designated by the Japanese government as a special natural monument, Japanese serows essentially live solitary lives hidden away in the forests of rugged mountainous areas. Our crew tracked these mammals over a period of four seasons on the steep slopes of the Hakusan mountain range. From spring to summer, when there is plenty to eat, Japanese serows raise their young, teaching them vital survival skills. But when winter comes, the slopes turn deadly as frequent avalanches can easily take their lives. This documentary gives a rare, in-depth look at the unique lives of serows in their harsh habitat.
