Synopsis
The Galapagos Islands, an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, were never connected to the mainland. Here, wildlife evolved on its own distinct path. One of the most unique creatures is the marine iguana. A cold current that runs by the islands creates ideal growth conditions for the algae that flourishes on the seafloor. These lizards have mastered the skills of diving and swimming in the ocean, where they have thrived on this abundance to which they have exclusive access. Reptiles are cold-blooded, and can't tolerate cold water for very long. These lizards have developed a way of keeping warm, which enables them to swim in the cold ocean currents with ease. The lives of marine iguanas are part of the drama of nature that unfolds on the Galapagos Islands, where one can witness the wonders of evolution.
