Visualizing the Virus

Covid-19: hi-tech images illustrate the mechanism of infection

As the novel coronavirus reached pandemic status and spread like wildfire around the world in March 2020, NHK began work to make this invisible virus "visible." Through joint experiments with experts, special photography, computer simulations, and the latest research, Visualizing the Virus is the definitive program that lays out knowledge necessary to live in the new era: how infections happen, and what measures we can take to avoid them.
The program features images of "microdroplets" -- small particles less than 1/100 mm in diameter -- which sounded the first warning of a new infection route. The experiment image quickly went viral, even being cited by researchers in scientific papers.
