"Ghost Shark" Rising from the Deep: Chimaeras

The ocean around Vancouver Island off Canada's western coast is rich in biodiversity, making it among the most prolific in the world. The island's shallow inlets host a strange looking deep ocean fish called the spotted ratfish, also known as "chimaera" or "ghost shark." Because it typically lives at depths of between 200-900 meters, the fish's biology is relatively unknown. Searching in the shallows, the film crew successfully records the creature's mating behavior never before captured on camera. Join us as we unravel one of the mysteries of the deep sea, and get up close and personal with the enigmatic ghost shark!
