WILDLIFE -- Life in the Wetlands: The Bird Paradise of Rural Lithuania

In the Baltic meadowlands of Lithuania, there remains a land where humans and wildlife live in harmony. During the harsh winter, as the river mouths are clogged with thick ice, the farmlands are flooded with icy water that freezes over. When this melts in spring, the landscape turns into a huge wetland that attracts large flocks of greater white-fronted geese. The farmers begin work when the water recedes and eagles and storks are busy raising their young. This episode reveals the dramatic, natural landscape of Europe.
