Legendary Giant Tree of Yakushima

A high-tech exploration of Japan's primordial forest

A legend exists on the Japanese island of Yakushima, a World Natural Heritage Site. It's a "super" giant cedar tree, larger than the famed 2,000-year-old Jomon-sugi, known to be the biggest cedar in the country. In search of this legendary super tree, NHK uses cutting-edge technology to carry out aerial scans of Yakushima. A team then sets out on foot to go deep into its primeval forests, a place where no one has ventured before. A quest filled with astonishing discoveries and spectacular cedars.
