- The wife and husband who pioneered the comedy business
A story of love and laughter set in Japan in the early 1900s. As the cheerful daughter of a well-established medicine wholesaler in Kyoto, Ten Fujioka is known for her infectious laugh. After meeting a traveling comedian named Tokichi, she becomes convinced that laughter is something she must have in her life. The two eventually elope to the bustling town of Osaka, where Tokichi must carry on his family's faltering rice broker business. Faced with familial disapproval, Ten nevertheless perseveres. When a bad decision by Tokichi causes the rice brokerage to go bust, she proposes they make a move into the comedy business. Thus begins this husband and wife's adventure to bring laughter to Osaka and the rest of Japan.
