WILDLIFE -- Visions of Mermaids: The Dugongs of Moreton Bay

Mystery-shrouded dugongs are on the edge of extinction and yet little is known about these shy creatures. Moreton Bay on the east coast of Australia is a rare site where large groups of these sea mammals gather in the hundreds. But during one major search, a large group of dugongs was found. Footage closely following the secretive lives of dugongs reveals among others, months-old calves swimming as they are piggybacked by their mothers, affectionate relationships between parents and offspring, and how the dugongs feed in water. This episode also introduces the rich nature of Moreton Bay and the various creatures that make their homes here.
