Saitama Gold Theater, led by distinguished Japanese director Yukio Ninagawa, is a rare troupe of professional senior actors. Nine years have passed since the troupe's foundation, and the actors, with an average age of 75, even took on the challenge of performing in Paris in December 2014. The actors come from a variety of backgrounds and include a retired pilot, teacher, veteran factory worker, and architect. They struggle with failing memories and increasing physical limitations, as well as individual concerns about chronic disease, nursing care, and in-fighting, yet despite it all they continue to work hard while being prodded on by master director Ninagawa. Applause, a humorous record of actors in their golden years, portrays people enjoying life to the fullest with the knowledge that today may be their final performance.
