The Unknown Radioactive Contamination: An Urgent Message From Our Waters

How far had radioactive contamination spread ten months after the Fukushima disaster? One of the answers was found in water. Together with a team of experts, NHK conducted its first in-depth examination of radioactive contamination of the sea within 20 kilometers of the Fukushima power plant as well as lakes and rivers in mountainous areas some distance away. The results showed that radioactive cesium from the nuclear plant had spread through water causing unexpected effects. This program looks at how radioactive material is transported, accumulates in fish, and ultimately threatens our lives.
