Giant Whales Roaming the Seas -- Sperm Whales, Japan

Sperm whales are the only whale species that chooses to live in the deep sea. Descending to depths of 3,000 meters, sperm whales spend two-thirds of their lives deep in the dark abyss of the sea. Their objective is to catch giant squid for food. Because the structure of their bodies is adapted to living at great depths, they cannot catch food in shallow waters. They dive to survive. As we follow a family of sperm whales, we witness the unique way they teach their young to dive deep into the sea.

Note: This is part of a 13-episode series.
